Rick Pitino wasn’t going to let former assistants and players hog the great press conference quotes.
He had to deliver one brutally honest opinion on college basketball after beating Seton Hall by 28.
Then Pitino blew it all up.
Not that it was a secret or anything but Pitino lays it out pretty plain and simple.
The NIL money is not a level playing field.
Then again, college basketball was never a level playing field.
Maryland Eastern Shore (a real Division I school) never had the same level playing field as Maryland.
The list goes on and on.
That’s what happens when you have 364 schools in Division I.
But now you’re hearing dollar amounts attached to players and people lose their mind even more.
Again, the bigger problem is the transfer portal.
NIL isn’t the problem.
Your coach leaves you’ve got the option to transfer again for free no matter what.
Doesn’t mean unlimited NIL is going to work.
Kansas State and Arkansas - the two schools who boasted about NIL and transfers - fucking stink.
That said, saying this after you beat Seton Hall by 28 just feels mean.
Then again, maybe he’s trying to rile up the Seton Hall crowd.
Get someone with a voice to put up some money so they can’t complain anymore?
He also ain’t wrong:
