We all know they want to trade for Jimmy Butler right?
Well, their problem was the lack of draft capital.
Before this trade, the Suns didn’t really have any.
Why is that significant?
Such a move would get Milwaukee under the second apron.
That would free up their ability to aggregate player salaries in a trade.
That trade plan seems focused on adding a high-salary veteran to the roster.

Pretty obvious what’s going on or at least what is being attempted.
In order for the Suns to bring in Butler, they need to offload Bradley Beal.
They traded for Jrue Holiday, they traded for Dame.
This is also probably why PHX needed more picks.
It all just makes too much sense when you lay it all out.
OK, so why does MIA participate in this?
For starters, they have no leverage.
Anything you’re free to get for Jimmy Butler right now is a bonus.
If that’s picks, expirings, young players, whatever.
They just need to get the deal done and move on.
Step 1 was the Suns benching Beal.
Step 2 is accumulating picks.
Step 3 is figuring out if this is a 2 or 3 team trade.
Step 4 is pulling the trigger and calling it into the league ahead of the Feb 6th trade deadline.
